The New Winery: An Integrated Concept.

The buildings of the historical Tenuta Löwengang estate in Magrè were expanded with the construction of new winemaking facilities and administration offices. Construction began in January 1995 and was completed in the summer of 1996.

The project and new buildings all reflect Alois Lageder's ecological, bio-sustainable and partially bioorganic viticultural practices. There were two main goals to be implemented:
• the creation of a natural, healthy and aesthetically pleasing environment for both man and wine;
• to create the basis for a sound, sustainable economy that assures that future generations will inherit a liveable world.
The entire new building was planned according to construction principles emphasizing low energy consumption and biological materials. All possible sources of conserving energy were employed, including utilizing all locally available sources of alternative energy. This includes among others radiating heat-ceiling panels, using heat retention in the air distribution unit or solar panel collectors for heating water. All these measures contribute to reducing emissions released into the
environment and the climatic risks from combustion of fossil fuels. The photovoltaic energy system Alois Lageder installed in 1996 represents the culmination of all these measures. It covers many of the winery's essential electrical energy needs while respecting the environment. The decision to install a central solar energy system on the office roof is an extension of the Alois Lageder winery's philosophy of the connection between man and nature. Since Alto Adige's sun ripens grapes of such optimal quality, it stands to reason the same force of nature can be mobilized to heat man's environment via a transformation that is clean, silent, efficient and does not produce pollutants.
